South Korea is planning to double the number of international students in the next few years. It means there are more chances for those who dream of studying in Korea. Studying and living in Korea can be quite expensive, nevertheless, the number of students who come from low-income families and countries is increasing. This is because the Korean Government provides several fully funded scholarships, which not only cover the tuition fee, but also monthly living expenses. This article is going to cover some of these scholarships explaining the application process, required documents and etc.
1. UST
South Korea Scholarship.
The
University of Science and Technology (UST) provides fully funded scholarship
opportunity for international students. The University of Science and
Technology is an organization of public universities and research institutions
in South Korea. All courses in this university are taught in English. UST
Scholarship covers the tuition fee, provides a monthly stipend of 1,200,000 KRW
for Master’s and 1,600,000 KRW for Doctoral students. Other benefits include
health insurance, free language courses, library and resource access, free
academic counseling, one-way travel ticket and accommodation. Application for
this scholarship is online through UST admission website. The submission of
application is followed by document screening. If you successfully pass this
stage, you will have to go through an interview. After the interview, UST
announces final successful candidates.

must submit all their documents in the English Language. In order to skip
English language certificates, an applicant’s previous academics must be taught
in English.

2. KOICA Scholarship.
The purpose
of KOICA Scholarship is to train leaders in partner countries to contribute to
the socio-economic development of their home countries. KOICA Scholarship
Program is accessible for 81 countries among the DAC list of ODA recipients.
KOICE Scholarship covers the tuition fee, air fare (both ways), provides a
monthly stipend of 1,000,000 KRW. Other benefits include accommodation,
settlement allowance, scholarship completion grants, health insurance and free
extracurricular activities.
Requirements
for KOICA Scholarship:
- Citizen
of a partner country (from the list of 81 countries)

- KOICA’s
Master’s Degree Diploma (for Doctoral application)
- Public
official or a publicly-affiliated worker
- Meeting
the criteria of the chosen university
Application
usually ends in March, education starts in September. The documents are first
reviewed by KOICA, then by the applied university.

3. KAIST Scholarship.
KAIST is a
highly competitive university to get admission. KAIST university graduates are
among the most wanted graduates for companies as it is one of the top
universities in South Korea.
Some
expenses are covered by the KAIST university, such as full tuition fee abdication for 8
semesters, accommodation expenses, 350,000 KRW per month
stipends (including residential expenses) and medical health
insurance. However, the Korean language course and airfare are not covered by the program.

4. Global Hope Scholarship.
Global Hope Scholarship Program provides
support for international students in Korea from developing countries who can become
future leaders and aid the development of their home countries, community, etc.
This scholarship is for students who got admission to the following
universities: Chonnam National University, Chung-Ang University, Dongguk
University, Ewha Womans University, Handong Global University, Hankuk
University of Foreign Studies, Hanyang University, Inha University , Jeju
National University, Korea University, Kyungpook National University , Kyunghee
University, Pusan National University, Sogang University, Seoul National
University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University.
Qualifications
for applying:
- Students
from nationality of a country in the DAC List of ODA Recipients
- Students experiencing financial difficulties
for study
- Students who have proven academic excellence
- At least TOPIK Level 3 required
- Students who are willing to join volunteer
activities and social contribution
- Students who are willing to join activities
hosted by the foundation

5. Global Korea Scholarship.
Global Korea
Scholarship is the most popular option among foreign students. GKS, previously
called KGSP (Korea Government Scholarship Program), is provided by Ministry of
Education in South Korea - NIIED (National Institute for International
Education. The program has a specific certain requirements and benefits. The
